Looking for fun sensory activities for toddlers and kids? Then you need to make this easy sensory bin of “clean mud.” It’s the perfect preschool sensory bin for kids who love digging, construction, trucks or just playing in mud.
Clean mud sensory bins for toddlers are perfect for trucks, insect toys, farms and so much more. We do this one as a construction sensory bin, which is an especially fun sensory bin for boys and truck-loving girls (my preschooler has been truck obsessed since he could crawl).
Preschool sensory bin activities are a great way to occupy little hands. My kids will seriously play at a bin of beans with spoons and bowls for waaaaay longer than you’d expect.
This one is surprisingly easy to make (the hack is to microwave a bar of soap!). The main ingredient is toilet paper, which everybody already has around the house.
So make up this DIY sensory bin and enjoy a few minutes of quiet time while your kids are playing!

Clean Mud Easy DIY Sensory BIN
Supplies:
- 2-4 rolls of toilet paper – torn into pieces
- 1 bar Ivory soap
- Medium/large sensory bin
- 4-6 cups of water
- Brown washable paints
- Spoon
- Scoops
- Tongs
- Plastic trucks, tractors, or cars

Directions:
1. Gather all the supplies needed.

2. Depending on the size of the toilet paper 2-4 rolls will be used. Tear the toilet paper into
small pieces and place them into a clean dry sensory bin.
3. On a microwave-safe plate microwave 1 bar of Ivory soap for 1-2 minutes. Start with 1
minute and add 30 seconds until the soap has expanded.

4. Let the soap cool for about 5 minutes. Once the soap has cooled crumble it into the
shredded toilet paper.

5. Then add 4 cups of water and knead with your hands to incorporate. Add more water 1
cup at a time if the toilet paper isn’t completely saturated.

6. Add about 2-3 tablespoons of washable brown paint to each bowl. Mix with your hands or
spoon.
7. Add toys, scoops, bowls, and tongs to your sensory bin.

8. Enjoy some quiet time as your kids play!
